Back to website design and to my Christian website

Posted in web development by magictemplate on the August 18th, 2008

It’s been a while since I haven’t writen anything on this blog, since I was busy for a period and in holiday for another period, when, despite the fact that I had more free time, I spent it everywhere else but in front of my computer.

Now I am back to blogging about website design and open source web templates, about what means to design a Christian website and how to promote such a website. You know, after a long period of time spent away from your websites sometimes you don’t know where to start your work when you get back to your computer. What should you do first? What should you start writing about?

Personally I have a few projects in my mind that I would like to start and a few more that I try to finish. I wish I only had enough time on my hands to do this.

One of the next projects that I would like to start is a website dedicated to premium WordPress themes only. It is one of my goals since a long time but I never manage to put it online. I hope to find the time for it.

I will keep you posted!

Lower traffic for Christian websites during summer period

Posted in web development by magictemplate on the May 6th, 2008

I think in this period of the year, Christian activities are less intense. I experience a traffic that went down a bit. Comparing it to last year traffic in the similar period, indeed, seems that exactly one year ago, from May to August, the traffic decreased a bit. Comparing it to Google predictions, I think that indeed, there is a lower traffic for Christian web templates and any related materials.

However, I expect it to be even better in a couple of months, actually starting from August I expect a traffic increase. My current positioning didn’t change and Google still loves me, he actually has no reason to not do it, so, I am quite convinced it is because of a lower need for Christian related materials.

How is on your side? Do you own a Christian website? How is your traffic compared to last months? Do you feel any increase or decrease in traffic? I know I am steady for a long time and I feel when something happens. How do you see it on your side?

Did you experience similar things?

Niches rule the internet, what’s yours?

I run this website since a while. I don’t know how many of you know that before being oriented to Christian design, before being a Christian website, I started it as a site providing website templates without having a niche. Back then I didn’t payed much thinking on this matter. I just wanted my site and that was all. After working hard on my site, because this site that you see now has a lot behind it, I managed to put it online, finally. And wait for sales and stuff. Well, guess what! I didn’t sell any product, none, any, no…I was sooo disappointed about this at first. Until somebody I know who works as a long time internet marketer advised me to orient my site to a niche. So MagicTemplate became a Christian website more and more, each and every day. I did it because it was a niche I could support due to my educational background and I managed to make it work so far.

Find your place easier in this big world

My point is that you need a niche when starting a website. I provide free Christian designs, you can find an other one. You can provide templates for music sites, or whatever you want. Just don’t start it big from the first time. Niches rule the internet. If you want to find your place, start a niche site and that is that! Try to find your place in this big world of websites. It will not be easy to succeed if you try to take the world by storm. Even if you are a big company, with a lot of resources, always find your niche and go with it. Try to make it stronger and stronger each and every day! This is how I would do it if I would start again an other website in this direction.

Each company needs a niche because the market competition is smaller, the people is more oriented and you can easily put yourself there where the position counts. Let’s see: you want to sell website templates, well, you may be amazed of how many sites can be found selling website templates. But if you narrow your search to music website templates, then you may have a winner. The market is way narrower, right? I know that people search less, way less for music website templates than for the general search but people looking for music related design will probably buy if the find what they need, while people just looking for the general term, well, may be just looking around.

Why niches convert better?

Niches convert better , statistical studies say that people performing 1 and 2 words searches are just “shoppers”, people looking for information, to see what they could find, without having a clear idea about what they need (yet), while people going for 3 and 4 words searches, they are buyers, people that are already oriented and are probably turning into buyers if they find what they need.

Now, what do you think? Are you going to pick a niche or what?

What was going on lately here

Posted in web development by magictemplate on the August 27th, 2007

I realize I haven’t been too active here in the last period of time. This is because I am trying to pun an other site of mine somewhere on the first page for it’s keyword(s). Well, this is not easy to do since I am trying to rank for a single word keyword. It is not a Christian website, it is a baby products website, a blog actually about exersaucers and other baby gear.

It is kind of fun. I don’t know that much about the field but I learn each and every day and I could say it works. I have just started this 3 weeks ago and I could say I like the way it progressed. However, I expect better results in the near future.

About MagicTemplate.com, I could say that we (me and my colleague)  were not that efficient, we try to put up a new version of this website, with login, user accounts, so Christian designers be able to upload their templates easily. However we will put the new version in beta and we’ll see what happens. Only that it seems we never manage to do it, we always need some more time because our clients ask us one thing or an other. We’ll see… Also the constant search for a new apartment is taking me a big deal of time. By the way…do you know some apartment for sale? ;) Well, I am joking since I am located far, far, away from you, reader of my site.

Anyway, I hope everything get back on track soon.

You should always set the next goal the very moment you reached the current one

When your site reaches a limit that you can not pass, is it your site limit or is it your own? Well, I ask myself this for a period of time and I have the impression that it is the limit of the person operating the website. I have this Christian website that you are reading right this very moment. I remember I set a target for it, for it’s traffic. Now I have reached this traffic for some time but I can’t seem to go further for some time. Why is that? Well, I don’t know, maybe because I need to set an other target in order to reach it.

When building a website, as in life, you need to set goals. So I should set an other goal, an other target to reach. Never relax, always set an other goal. So, starting today I will set an other goal for MagicTemplate.com website, a goal that I will not make public yet, but it will become my only goal for this Christian website that I really love!

That post is based on my experience with this site, I was asking myself why can’t I go to the next level. I just think it is because of me and because of the current lack of goals. I should always go to the next level, to make this website as visited as possible.

Now, since I already set my next goal, I will go on to work on i and tell you about it later…

New site coming up…

Yesterday I had a discussion with one client of mine to start a website together. It’s going to take some work to do it and to built the user database for the future, but I am kind of excited to do it. It has nothing to do with Christian web templates or anything related to religion, it is a business site, oriented to a particular niche that I am not going to reveal yet! I let you boil :-) asking what great project is it going to be? Well, you’ll see.

In the meantime I will need to work also here on MT and I never find the time, even with the new collaborator. We are working on a chalet website that we intend to launch soon and then we’ll see. So this post was just to tell everybody that I am excited about starting that new site I am telling you about. So, nothing important, right? ;-)
