New user accounts system for designers willing to share their work

Posted in Site news by magictemplate on the August 30th, 2007

We have finally manage to add a new functionality that we were waiting for a long time: designers can create user accounts and upload their work on our site! Creating a user account is easy and it takes little time and most of all, it is free! You can upload designs after this and have your work downloaded by thousands people.

We hope to have as many designers as possible using our site and we encourage you all to create an account and  upload your work! However, the system is still in beta testing so if you encounter any problems during the process of uploading templates, please let us know in order to fix it fast.

We will be waiting for as many designers as possible!!

What was going on lately here

Posted in web development by magictemplate on the August 27th, 2007

I realize I haven’t been too active here in the last period of time. This is because I am trying to pun an other site of mine somewhere on the first page for it’s keyword(s). Well, this is not easy to do since I am trying to rank for a single word keyword. It is not a Christian website, it is a baby products website, a blog actually about exersaucers and other baby gear.

It is kind of fun. I don’t know that much about the field but I learn each and every day and I could say it works. I have just started this 3 weeks ago and I could say I like the way it progressed. However, I expect better results in the near future.

About MagicTemplate.com, I could say that we (me and my colleague)  were not that efficient, we try to put up a new version of this website, with login, user accounts, so Christian designers be able to upload their templates easily. However we will put the new version in beta and we’ll see what happens. Only that it seems we never manage to do it, we always need some more time because our clients ask us one thing or an other. We’ll see… Also the constant search for a new apartment is taking me a big deal of time. By the way…do you know some apartment for sale? ;) Well, I am joking since I am located far, far, away from you, reader of my site.

Anyway, I hope everything get back on track soon.

A few words about Saddleback Church

Posted in Just blogging by magictemplate on the August 23rd, 2007

To be honest I didn’t know anything about Saddleback Church. I didn’t even know there is a Saddleback Church or anything like it since I am not located in USA. I was looking on the internet for some information and I found something about Saddleback Church. I looked some more on the internet about it and I can tell you this:

What is Saddleback Church?

Saddleback Church, or Saddleback Valley Community Church is a Southern Baptist church in Lake Forest.
Wikipedia told me that Saddleback Church is one of the largest churches in USA with a weekly attendance from 12,000 to 15,000 people. This make it one of the largest, indeed.

I have also found that  Saddleback Church has a great website that tells me they have a real interest in promoting the church and they don’t miss anything in this area. That is probably why people come to Saddleback Church.

The pastor of Saddleback Church is Rick Warren which says he had a vision at the age of 19 and since then he continued his job as God’s man, preaching and building one of the largest churches in the USA.

Christian websites are not that search during summer time

Posted in Christian resources by magictemplate on the August 19th, 2007

I don’t know about other businesses but when it comes to a Christian website the traffic in this part of year goes down. People are just not that interested in Christian web templates. I guess everybody goes in holidays so they don’t search the internet anymore. Well, that’s too bad!!!

But coming back to the point, I don’t like the fact that the traffic goes down during summer time. I am lucky anyway that I don’t have products that are only searched on a specific period of time. Imagine how it would be to sell Christmas only templates. It would not be good, right?

Anyway, I am looking forward to the moment tha search volume will go up again!

How to become a web designer, part 3 - look around

Posted in Christian resources, how to become web designer by magictemplate on the August 14th, 2007

Well, today’s lesson is “Always learn from the others!”. This is true in any domain of activity, not only in web design. It is one of the “must do” things. Always look around. As a personal experience outside the design business, I (used to - we haven’t met in a while) play in a rock band. While playing together we were great. Well, once a year we used to go to a national concert where underground bands from all over the country used to come and play. Well…what do you know? There were other people better or at least different!

And you know what? You could only see this by looking around. If you do your stuff closed in a box, you will never learn anything and more than this you will never see new stuff, you will never see trends, what is good and what is wrong, etc. This is a part of your permanent education. Loon and see how the others are doing one way or an other, there are always better solutions to your problems. Actually when you say that there is no solution to some problem you face, always think that the solution is there, only that you can’t see it. Well, maybe somebody else already found it.

Meet people. Meet designers, chat and learn, tell the others how you do things and they will tell you how they do things. Don’t just go and tell them “I am the best” or “Let me show you how things should be done”, you will only upset the rest and they will never accept you around.

Look for design collections, there are plenty of design collections, for example I have found a great collection of best sites from the point of view of a designer where you can see nice designs, see for ex this one or this one , you will only learn from seeing somebody else’s work.

Always ask yourself how an other designer did this or that. Ask around, read blogs, forums, chat with the designer, some of them will tell you.

Be social, you need it when you work as a web media professional!

Christian website, to be or not to be

Posted in Christian resources, church website design by magictemplate on the August 13th, 2007

This is a reason why TO BE(make, have) a Christian website

What is MagicTemplate.com? Well,MT is a christian website devoted to Christian webmasters. A Christian website should put a lot of importance to the people it serves, should offer high quality Christian resources to people. You need to do this because Christians are a devoted community and only the fact that your website belongs to the community may make your website bloom.

The reason why NOT TO BE(make, have) a Christian website

Well, if you have the curiosity to test searches in online marketing tools related to Christian websites, you may have a surprise. While there are some niches where people search a lot, in most of them you will not have a high search volume, and gives you a virtual low traffic. This does not mean that a Christian website will not have a high traffic! Not at all! Just that, depends on it’s sub-niche, it may have or may not. The fact is that I am speaking about search engines related traffic, but if you build your site right, you may count on some other traffic sources, such as direct traffic, brand awareness, etc.

This is true and right for any website, not only for a religious niche. A Christian website is an example here, since I am running one, but any site should build its traffic on more sources, not only on search engines.

You should always set the next goal the very moment you reached the current one

Posted in church website design, how to become web designer, web development by magictemplate on the August 13th, 2007

When your site reaches a limit that you can not pass, is it your site limit or is it your own? Well, I ask myself this for a period of time and I have the impression that it is the limit of the person operating the website. I have this Christian website that you are reading right this very moment. I remember I set a target for it, for it’s traffic. Now I have reached this traffic for some time but I can’t seem to go further for some time. Why is that? Well, I don’t know, maybe because I need to set an other target in order to reach it.

When building a website, as in life, you need to set goals. So I should set an other goal, an other target to reach. Never relax, always set an other goal. So, starting today I will set an other goal for MagicTemplate.com website, a goal that I will not make public yet, but it will become my only goal for this Christian website that I really love!

That post is based on my experience with this site, I was asking myself why can’t I go to the next level. I just think it is because of me and because of the current lack of goals. I should always go to the next level, to make this website as visited as possible.

Now, since I already set my next goal, I will go on to work on i and tell you about it later…
