Learn to be patient and give your Christian website time
One of the things I consider very important when building your church website is patience. Patience is a virtue and we all should be thankful we have it, if we have it. Thus, when we build a church website we should not expect real results on short terms. Nobody expects results on short terms from a website, since websites tale time to bring visitors.
So learn how to be patience, to value each result, each new visitor, each new small step. In time they will all come together and give you the result you want and your site will become successful. Until that time, learn how to not lose your patience and how to wait.
Christian websites may have a slower growing rate but Christian people are more loyal and they will form in time a good traffic stream that will help your site a lot. Just don’t loose your patience on the way. Try to save it for later, wait and your results will come when you least expect it. Websites take time.. Christian websites too…
New site coming up…
Yesterday I had a discussion with one client of mine to start a website together. It’s going to take some work to do it and to built the user database for the future, but I am kind of excited to do it. It has nothing to do with Christian web templates or anything related to religion, it is a business site, oriented to a particular niche that I am not going to reveal yet! I let you boil
asking what great project is it going to be? Well, you’ll see.
In the meantime I will need to work also here on MT and I never find the time, even with the new collaborator. We are working on a chalet website that we intend to launch soon and then we’ll see. So this post was just to tell everybody that I am excited about starting that new site I am telling you about. So, nothing important, right? ![]()
When you start a new site, always be alert and ready to give it time
When you decided to start a new website, like I am considering right this very moment, think about the fact that when having (at least) a website it means you are always on the move. All the time you need to come up with something, to adapt, change, do anything new to your website.
If you think that you start a website and your life goes on the same way, it means that you don’t want your website to grow because the site grows as much as you work for it. Actually it is as in any other business. You have a site. Well, make it work, make it move! If you don’t invest time and passion into your website, it will stay where it is. If it is down, it will stay down. If it is up, well, sorry to tell you that it will stay for a while (short while) there but then if you don’t do anything to it, guess what! It will go down. And after you worked hard to put it somewhere where it brings you a good and steady flow of visitors, you just want to let it waste? Well, I would bet you don’t want that.
Then, prepare yourself for hard work on your website and always be alert. Look around, see what other people has to say and what your competition does and prepare to meet your visitors with something similar. That is the way you should think! Always be alert when it comes to your website! Otherwise you will not do too much with it…
When you get into something, learn the game first
I was paying some thinking these days and I got to the conclusion that continuity is one of the best things you can have in your career of web developer, web designer or whatever you are. Websites grow in time, nobody expects a website to start earning money right the next day you put it up and running. No, you can not expect this. Or if you expect this then you are a newbie in websites. We will all be there for you in this case
I remember somebody I know asking me one day about how to earn money from websites. He heard about that idea with million dollars page and he said that yes, I will make such a page. Ok, I asked him. How are you going to bring money to this website of yours? Well, I will go to companies (physically speaking, local companies). Ok, I said, but why would a company pay you advertising space on your website? I tried not to hit him but to make him realize by himself the way sites work.
Well, he said, I am going to promote them on my page. That is why they pay me. Well, Ok, I said, I got your point. I explained him how things work and I advised him to start a blog and build traffic first.
See the mistake? He missed the main problem: how will he get traffic? He never thought about this and he just wanted to make money by building a website. He had no knowledge about websites, HTML, marketing, or whatever we do here, he just wanted the result.
So I was thinking: when you start a game, learn the rules first, otherwise you’re lost!
What do you think?
When things get tough, should you go on or go out?
That’s a question I have for some time now. When things gets tough, I mean really tough and there is a way out of there just not the normal way, forward. Let’s put it in a technical way, even if the reason I started this post is a more personal one, not necessarily related to websites.
Let’s say you try something for a few years and you worked a lot for it hoping it will work. Let’s make things even more complicated: not succeeding would mean a lot for you and for people around you. But things are getting more and more complicated, started to create problems in your life. People tell you that you should drop out of it, to let it go. Warning: I am speaking about a positive situation here, one that in a normal situation would not happen. OK, but let’s go back to my website issue. Let’s say you work for one of your websites day and night, invested a lot of time and money working for it, but it just doesn’t want to start, doesn’t bloom in any way.
What would you do? Let it go and move to an other one? Or tell yourself that it has to bloom at one moment and work more and more and more without results? What would be better?
I know that my education and culture would tell me to go on and not drop it, but the already spent volume of work without desired result, people around me, common sense, friends, tell me to drop it since it only makes me tired and wastes my resources. I personally ask myself this question since a long time. What would you do?
Wordpress is good for building websites because Google loves it
Indeed, and I have a test to prove it here without actually wanting it. I have websites that are designed by me from scratch, like this one. This website has a management interface where I can change things, update templates, write articles, etc. But it is not built on any CMS, just a plain old Christian website.
I also have websites built on some CMS that I have developed and proved to be very good for what I need to do day by day. However, I only have 1 site based on Wordpress. This site I am speaking about now! I performed this test and I saw that it was indexed by big G at 1 hour interval after I posted something on it, while other website of mine, with the same parameters but built on a CMS of mine, was not re-indexed at all, not even 2 days later. I know there are many parameters to consider, but reading the post, you’ll understand why I say that Wordpress should be really considered when building a website. Not for its power of administrating content, but for the power of being loved by Google.
That is why I also consider providing Wordpress themes here, to help people building such Christian blogs. Well, we’ll see, just read the article…
New collection of website reviews
This is one of those days when you feel like relaxing, spending your time doing nothing most of the time…
I feel the holidays near, sun, quietness, friends and no work at all (who am I kidding?!
) I always work since there is always something to do.
Anyway, I have been busy lately with reorganizing one of my other websites, LayoutGarden.com which I reorganized as a collection of websites reviews, from the point of view of the way they earn money. Each site is a small business and each of them has to live one way or an other. From this point of view I review some of the websites I like, or at least from the point of view of their potential of bringing visitors and grow. It is an interesting task to do, really!
I always browse the internet and read articles related to this topic so it came as a natural step. However, I invite you all to read it, subscribe to email or send it to a friend. Soon I will cover MagicTemplate there as well, so people reading LayoutGarden.com find out more about our site providing free church web templates.
Google listed me 1 hour after I have published the information on one of my sites
I have performed a test today, without a real intention of doing it, just that it happened to observe something and then I tested it for real. To make it clear, it is a statement, not a joke, read here if you don’t believe it:
I got listed in Google 1 hour after I posted something on one of my blogs and twice in one single day!!!
It’s for real, no joke, I have 2 posts about this on LayoutGarden.com with data and step by step explanations. I invite you all to read it.
A nice website template improves visitors’ response
I have made an interesting observation these last days on one of my websites. Just changing the website template changed(improved) the answer of my visitors. I am speaking about MagicLaptop.com website. At this moment, my ideas was to build a steady traffic on it and to build a nice design later when I will have more time for it.
But one of those days I changed the design a bit and I had the surprise to get good feedback in term of revenue and visitors’ response. And all these due to a template change. The text is the same, I still update my info periodically, just the website design changed and suddenly people responded better to it. Well, that is why I dare to say that a nice website design will improve your website in terms of visitors’ trust and response. People will trust your website if it looks nice, they will presume you spent time on it, it matters to you, so they will also give it a try. And all these with just a change of a template.
That’s why changing your church site design will be a good thing for you too. Use a nice, trusty design and you will see more people coming to you church, subscribing to mail newsletter, being interested in your church. Use a nice template and watch how it goes. It is really worth spending some time on it!
