The fact is that it is not about ecommerce websites, it works great with Christian websites also, and with all types of websites out there. Latest site news: I've got my Google PR back!When previous Google PR update took place, I lost my PR 4 to a PR 3. I don't know why that happened, but I felt unhappy about it. However, a few days ago it came back, so I have again a PR 4 and I am happy about it! Not that it would matter too much, but it shows some kind of "respect"! I don't know if this is the right word, but a good PR puts you on a better position when speaking to somebody else.
There are many situations when a good PR would help you, like for ex in a link exchange situation, or in advertising and even in gaining trust! Yes, that is right, if I see a site with a higher PR, I consider it better, because it is on the market for a long time, otherwise it wouldn't have had that PR.
